For Sale: S.E. Shires Alto Model A1GM, Dual Bore (Pre-Eastman)
Just got it back from the shop where it got some minor work done and a chemical clean.
Bell Section: excellent condition; 95% of lacquer intact, some normal wear and tear on the crook of the bell section, some acid bleed around the rim, recently had a small ding removed from the crook, bell flare nearly pristine
Slide: recently had a small ding removed in one of the outer tubes and had it checked for alignment; it was about a 9/10 before it went to the shop, now it's a 9.5/10 or maybe even a 10/10 after the next player breaks it back in; 90% of lacquer intact with some general normal wear on the hand grips and throughout the outer tubes; inner tubes show no plating wear; outer tubes do have a couple of small traces of red rot that my tech pointed out to me. I had an extensive conversation with him about this, and he said that if the next player does routine maintenance and care (swabbing the inside of the outers every week or two and a chem clean once a year), it should be easy to mitigate further spread and could go for a couple of decades without needing the outers replaced.
That being said, for peace of mind of the next buyer, I have factored the condition of the slide into the pricing. I've seen these altos go for around $2500-2750 on the used market, so I am asking $2250 plus shipping. These pre-Eastman altos are phenomenal - very even and easy to play - and this is the lowest price point that I've seen on the used market for these horns. Could be a great opportunity for a high school or college student to acquire a high-end alto at almost half the cost.
Asking: $2250 + shipping (approximately $50 shipped/insured CONUS; will do an estimate for international). Comes with a #3 leadpipe.
