If anyone has a nice King 5B for sale, please let me know (not Silversonic nice, but a good player nice).

You should clarify which version of the 5B you are looking for (assuming you have a preference). There's two flavors of 5B and they're quite different from each other.

Fair question. I’m not actually too familiar with the two varieties, can you tell me a bit about the two types?

Older version: One tuning slide in attachment. Dual bore 0.536" top and 0.547" bottom. Often requires small shank mouthpiece. Sometimes called 2B, sometimes called "Symphony", sometimes called 5B.
Newer version: Two tuning slides in attachment. Attachment looks exactly like 4B. Single bore 0.547" handslide. Takes large shank mouthpiece (or sometimes special oversize King shank).

Some later 1480's have two tuning slides in the attachment.

Ah, got you. I was not aware of the older style. I am definitely looking for the large tenor/small bass 9” bell version that is similar to the 4b.

Thanks, yes, I’ve seen those. I’m trying to keep this around $1000. I like the one listed for $900 but wanted to see what else is out in the market (I see that I just missed a nice one at $750 back in December).

Agreed. The one for $1,000 shipped looks to be a good deal. Look up Greenbean in the Trombone Chat member roster and PM him, he often has a good selection and is reliable.

:good:
If Tom (Greenbean) says it's good .. it is. He's honest, and his prices are always fair.

I have a dual-bore Symphony model, and it has the Remington/Browne&Sharpe taper and two pulls in the attachment tubing, so they must have had a lot of flavors of these before standardizing. Just changing the mouthpiece really does make it feel and sound like a different horn! Good luck on your hunt.
