Off-Topic

As many of you know, I think the option for Off-Topic stuff is good. People can set their settings to ignore it, right? I was always in favor of it merely for the choices it offered. Now that we've been around for a while, what are you guys' thoughts on the matter?

If we're looking for overall participation numbers, the off-topic stuff is definitely what was driving TTF. I enjoyed reading it but it was a real time-waster. Now that I'm on Facebook that wastes enough of my time and I'm not necessarily ready to go back to reading about nothingberders.

I'm fine with off topic stuff, but I don't think we should lift the ban on political and religious stuff. Maybe the other way around, where there's a hidden area that you have to be privileged to join could work. I would prefer that if for no other reason than it would be easier to police and then the contentious discussion to be what shows up on Google searches
