Let's all celebrate our wonderful country's 248 years of independent governance, and (mostly) increasing freedom and individual responsibility. We have indeed been a beacon to the rest of the world, and we have a great deal to be proud of in our history - especially the welcoming and successful integration of immigrants (like my parents and grandparents). And, sadly, a great deal yet to accomplish!

I have one wish for this anniversary: I want there to be a 249th.
