I shared these pics on FB in the BTAS group, but here's some pics. The bell flare needed a lot of work to get it to the point we could cut the bell, but it all worked out great! The ring helped with stabilizing this already thin flare, and the meinlschmidt open-flow and standard rotary valves are amazing! The air efficiency is so much better it's taking me a while to get used to it, but overall the end result was 100% worth the cost. Thanks again to LI Brass Co for undertaking this project!

That looks great. I have a bass valve section Jeff made for me on a Holton bass screw bell myself. Unbelievably responsive!!!

That is really cool. I love it when makers take old parts and update them like this. It's got Minick vibes

Minick did have a valve that resembles the open flow - at least externally. Though I don’t think many were produced.

No, taking factory parts and rebuilding them as an improved instrument is not at all like Minick, apparently. Nor is the open-flow valve which was most likely based on the Minick version. <EMOJI seq="1f92b" tseq="1f92b">🤫</EMOJI>

Oh boy. What I meant, and I guess one needs to be specific, most of Minick's work was customizing instruments using their own parts, valves, etc.. Adding a second valve to a 60H is one example. Did he make his own bells? Absolutely. But he didn't take some modern valve if there even was one and replaced Conn or Bach valves with them. That's what I meant. Larry would also not put all of the valve tubing on one side of the instrument and turn the valve cluster out at an angle like the above version. That is why I said the above did not remind me of Minick's work or idea.
However I'm sure you, or someone else, can come up with the 1 example where he did this.

Just for the sake of accuracy, the only parts that are Holton are the bell, and the slide. The rest of the Holton is still here for a future project. The radial flow valve is remarkably similar to Larry's original design, just made by Meinlschmidt.
