Jean / Nick cases - DAC or Eastman copy or something else?

Jean and Nick cases by Victory Music Instruments.

I've never heard of this make before.
They look similar to the DAC cases or the JW Eastman's, has anyone had experience here?

Crossrock is half the price and less unknown.

Seems to also have zippers rather than latches. Latches are much more easily replaced should they fail - which, as another benefit, they are less likely to.

My first 88H was around $425.00, new, with tax. After the theft of the 88H, the 42B that replaced it was about the same. To stay on topic, a Jean and Nick or DAC case could hardly be worse than the wedge case that the 88H came with. I think the 42B came with a zipper case that I never cared for. The zipper case on the LT42AG is no better. The zipper on the Bach LT6 case failed shortly after the warranty expired. It is great, with a bungee cord, for small bore trombones that mimic yard birds, never leaving home. The LT6 now enjoys a home in a legacy Gator ABS case which has protected it well through adverse service events (ASEs). The Bach brass zippers are loaded in tension with a single âfastenerâ friction load path. Not satisfied with that stress blunder, Bach shoots their other foot by completing the joint with a single thread seam that attaches the zipper cloth âtapeâ to the canvas case cover. The friction load path of the brass teeth competes with the single thread seam in a race to fail first. Fan Duel has yet to pick it up, but itâs coming. Aesthetically however, these cases connote an ethereal experience reminiscent of the after market zipper case covers that were once popular among violinists. No right minded violinist would ever stoop to picking up a Bach trombone case, whether the case contained a trombone, or not, though Bach cases do âbuild strong bodies, 12 ways.â

No experience with this company, but I can't imagine that case is worth it for $600. No reviews and no other pictures on the website make me skeptical.

On the other hand, if a 0.50 to 0.75 inch (13mm to 2mm) thick foam seal is present on the case lid, similar to the seal on a refrigerator door, slightly compressed foam will help to distribute and dampen asymetric loading and reduce âyawâ on the zipper teeth. This design may reduce low cycle fatigue loads as the zipper is opened or closed, and reduce shock loads due to impact, increasing durability.

Interesting, but yeah maybe not at that price... Though the DAC, once you import them are about the same.

Youâre right! Trombone looks to be the only one from the lineup that does. My mistake. I bet itâs a DAC case rebadges like many other things in a production environment. Sometimes simpler to acquire/license a case than make your own.
Given it has latches, it would be on my list if I were shopping. Though if itâs like the DAC on the inside, it is VERY minimal and doesnât offer great isolation between bell and slide.
