Removing leadpipe

I recently had the upper inner slide replaced on an older Conn 6H. I’m hoping to salvage the original pipe.

Any suggestions on removing it? My repair tech tried with no success. I asked to keep the tube.

I fear that the last resort will be snip the stocking end and carefully peel it back to the point where the leadpipe is visible.

You’ve probably solved this problem already or moved on, but in case you haven’t, here’s my 2 cents. It’s super difficult to remove an old leadpipe, as corrosion and general nastiness build up at the end of the leadpipe over time. Even if your tech melts the solder the holds the leadpipe in place, they might not be able to break the leadpipe loose from the corrosion. You could try your proposed surgery, but you’d likely encounter the same issue. You might consider some sort of solvent (drano or muriatic acid) to break up the corrosion and then try to unsolder the leadpipe with a propane/butane torch. You may have to accept, however, the you may not be able to get it out without damaging it.
