Hi everyone, sort of made an account just to make this post.

About a few months ago I had somehow found this old Japanese fusion jazz trombonist. His name is Hiroshi Suzuki. There seems to be very little information about him online, and the only ones that exist are just about where he was from, where he died, or about how people like his album.

His most popular album is named "Cat", and I really enjoy it, I've transposed the only sheet music of it I've been able to find of one of the songs "Shrimp Dance." Unfortunately, the only person who was part of creating this album that I've been able to find anything on is the saxophonist Takeru(?) Muraoka. I sent him an email in the tiny hope that maybe they would have some kind of lead, but unfortunately they do not, they were very kind and actually replied in english, but they said the last they met with Hiroshi Suzuki was 20 years ago.

Anyway, I was just wanting to see if any of you may know the artist, what you think of them, and if you may have any leads on where I can find some sheet music for it aside from manually transcribing.

Hi, and welcome.

I didn't know Hiroshi Suzuki, so thanks for bringing him up. I went on YouTube and found the album, "Cat."

Sorry, I can't be helpful in finding sheet music. But thanks for turning me on to him.

Thank you for the welcome, I was able to find the saxophone part for the opening of "Shrimp Dance." Though to be fair it did teach me how to transpose so it would be playable on trombone. Absolutely love his playing style, but I'm not skillful enough to transcribe from audio

Thanks for sharing, I really enjoy the Japanese jazz / funk / fusion style. Very interesting to look into even though it is basically "retro" at this point. Lots of these jazz musicians are pretty unknown but sound great, really makes me aspire to play like them.

Yeah, everything becomes retro next to early Duke Ellington orchestra. Or Monk...

Especially "at this point" :frown:

and in classical i don't even know.... gotta go all the way back to renaissance to get any solid sense of a possible future (worth looking forward to, i mean; — not even being funny here, not a funny thought...)

I mostly know him from being sampled, but I really enjoy the cat album.
