I’m surprised that they even have to advertise that job <EMOJI seq="1f633" tseq="1f633">😳</EMOJI>

I depped/subbed for Chris Mowat a few times back in the 90’s

FFS. That's 20p/hour over the MU's MINIMUM rate. For the "global No. 1 institution for both Music and Performing Arts" (according to their own advert).

And for that 20p they want "a widely recognised and highly respected practitioner, either as a performer or teacher".

Why would they not advertise the job?

Because in those institutions 9 times out of 10 they are already fixed.

Perhaps they are fulfilling the equal opportunity box or perhaps they are genuinely looking for someone new <EMOJI seq="1f609" tseq="1f609">šŸ˜‰</EMOJI>

If the process is anything like that in the US, yes the position needs to be publicly posted even if an internal candidate exists to prevent discriminatory practices and nepotism
