I switched from saxophone my sophomore year in high school and played bass trombone for three years. I’m switching now to a tenor trombone, but I played a 1 1/2G mouthpiece. What’s a good transition mouthpiece from Bass to tenor?

And it’s been about 20 years since I’ve played? <EMOJI seq="1f605" tseq="1f605">😅</EMOJI> Thanks!

What trombone are you switching to? Large or Small Shank? a 6 1/2AL or 5G is usually a good place to start.

Probably a large bore with an F attachment. I’m still looking for one but wanted to start buzzing around the mouthpiece. Maybe I should wait. Thoughts?

20 years since you last played? Consider yourself a beginner. Use any mouthpiece you can find. Most beginners seem to work best on a Bach 6½AL or 5G on a large bore or 7C on a small bore. Get started and branch out if you need to.

I’m sure I’m rusty, but no beginner. <EMOJI seq="1f605" tseq="1f605">😅</EMOJI> All joking aside, I’ll take this in consideration thank you.

Did this after 40 years. 6.5 AL worked great for restart on tenor.

Thank you! I would love to just buy a bass trombone actually, but they’re just so expensive! That would be a dream.

You can often find a single or an old dependent dual in F/flatE for a reasonable amount.
