Good days

Do you have good days playing, where it feels like you're not bound by the laws of the universe? I sure do. And there's nothing like those good days. They make life worth living.
I'm looking forward to today. I get to play all three of my horns, my small bore with Slide (really excited about Slide), and my large bore tenor and bass trombone on a gig where I get to play with another wonderful trombonist. I woke up super excited this morning. <EMOJI seq="1f642" tseq="1f642">🙂</EMOJI> Do you have days like that? For me they are rare, but when they come I feel on top of the world.
Man, I can't wait to get at it today.
But we'll see how it goes. I may stink. LOL! Yesterday I did a really hard 2+ hour practice session where it felt like after a year and a half I was finally all the way back. It felt like it did 30 years ago. That was definitely a Good Day. Woohoo! But those moments are usually followed by a crappy day, so we'll see if my horns and I are friends or enemies today. Sometimes it's love, sometimes it's war.
I hope it's love. I really want another Good Day.

Bad days usually come after a good day when you overdid it because it felt so good. You have to know when to stop.

Good for you, Dana :good: No, I do not remember having such a good day when everything is so good that anything goes. I'm glad I have very few real bad days. I remember when I was young. I couldn't play before noon. Couldn't play if not warmed up 40 minutes. I had to play certain patterns just because... I never really felt I was ready to perform. I only had bad says. Now I have stopped to think about how things feel because there is always something.....
I envy you. It must be a great feeling to have a day when there is absolutely no struggle.

The best good day I ever had was at an audition where I played everything perfect and made it into an ensemble I had not thought I was a plausible candidate for.
Yup. That was forty years ago and there's been nothing like that good day since. :shuffle:

Yeah, I was pretty aware of that, but as it turns out yesterday was a pretty good day, too. Had to play jazz lead with Slide, and then had to play orchestral tenor and bass, and made it through the day feeling pretty darned good.
I'm starting to think I took another step forward. It's weird how it comes all of a sudden, sometimes, after weeks or months when nothing seems to be happening.

Ohh yes I know that feeling. For me everydays is exciting. You never know. Bad days I do F to Bb legato a lot of times very slow. Good days I do the same. The middle register is the worst register.
Dana, have you ever thought of playing so many different instruments can give you problems? Especially in your situation coming back to the trombone after many years?

If you're in the right place, multiple instruments can be a big advantage.
If you're not in the right place, yes it can cause problems.

I’ve been thinking recently that playing different trombones (alto, tenors, and bass) is holding me back on all of them.

On a bad day, I feel like I should keep going until I get it fixed.
Has never worked, ever. :idk:

Maybe it's just because I didn't get much sleep last night, but what's the "right place?" Is it a metaphysical place?
