Conn 88H 1st position spring. WTB

I’ve recently acquired a new SL2547 dual bore slide for my 1963 88H. After 60 years playing with a spring in 1st position, I miss having one. My local tech can install one but he doesn’t have any. I don’t remember when Conn stopped supplying slides with springs but I do recall that many players didn’t like them and had them removed.

I m hoping that somebody out there has a spring or 2 they might be happy to part with.

Bob Osmun cut a baritone horn valve spring in half to make a set of springs for my Yamaha 682 slide. See if your tech can do the same.

I've got a pair somewhere. John Swallow ripped them out of my '68 Elkie on my first lesson. Said they drove him crazy. Not sure why I kept them.

You might want to try just one spring - I also played 88H's etc. for many years, and was used to the 1st position springs. Later, I bought a 50's 8H that became my main horn, and it only had 1 spring (can't remember if it was the top or bottom slide). I liked that a lot because it gave me the same defined spot for my 1st position (except for tuning sharp/flat notes, of course) but it was significantly quieter and was very easy to push in all the way if a note was flat to colleagues.
