Long shank mouthpiece

Just a quick question for the experts out there - I have recently acquired a Shilke 52e2 mouthpiece with a longer than normal shank. Can anyone tell me the purpose of the longer shank? It seems to fit into the receiver of my Bach 50B ok.

It was/is "hybrid" shank to fit both Morse and Remington (vintage Conn) tapers.
