I've been looking for a cheap alto trombone for awhile now and Thomann's are around $300 I know 2 people that have Thomann altos and say they aren't bad. I am just wondering if they sound as cheap as they cost or any info on if they are made poorly?

I was just reading through it myself a few days ago, because I was actually considering buying myself one <EMOJI seq="1f602" tseq="1f602">😂</EMOJI> they seem to actually be reasonably consistent, most people saying they have decent (or even GREAT) slides, the most major gripes appearing to be with the weight on some models, and some intonation flaws.

Can't speak for myself, and the only alto I've ever played was a pBone mini. But I may grab myself one and take it home next time I'm in Europe this year.

I owned a TEB480 for a while. I am not an alto player but learned to read and play on it. I really enjoyed it. I have never played an alto from the more “serious” brands — way too much $ for my use case — to compare it to. I bought new from Thomann, shipping to US was fast and cheaper than I thought it would be. The slide needed a cleaning but otherwise it was a great horn to learn on.

I eventually sold it as I saw it a distraction for my limited practice time. I would definitely buy one again.
