Well....sometimes I desperately need to get away from the city ruckus, and with some days off I fled. To practise entirely on my own conditions: when I want to, how much I want to and what I feel I want to:

Nice. Tiny home?

Sometimes I change from my 10’ x 12’ home office into the living room.

Well: In the town we live quite small, but I have a country house to which I retreat whenever I have the chance, and this week turned out to be such a chance.

It's a much needed mid-work vacation.

What a lovely place to practice! :)

I always practice here. Very isolated, very quiet, with very much a solitary, secluded, cocoon feeling.

That looks really nice and I also love the cocoon, secluded cell feeling, but isn't it an acoustically very dry room? I like when I have some ambience in the room where I practise, and that rug and those drapes look like they eat sound as Polly eats crackers.

It’s not dead, if that’s what you mean. We have enough hard reflective surfaces to give some life to the sound. But it is very honest!

If I really want to hear how I'm playing, I move my practice downstairs from a stuffy carpeted bedroom to our much more acoustically "alive" wood-floored family room, or better yet our living room with its tall sloped ceiling. Everything works better downstairs, and practice is much more satisfying. :)

Of course if I had a home theater, or better yet a cozy cottage to escape to ... :shuffle:

In the music school where I teach, my office has a fascinating design. No 90 degrees of any walls. It makes it pleasant for the ears even when blowing very loud. But it's a small room. And doesn't give me much forgiveness. All bad things out of the bell is very clear. But sometimes also good things. Legato and articulation is good to learn and practice in this room. It's honest.

But sometimes I like to be in a big nice room or hall. Where the sound can live it's own life. It helps me kind of relax, put the shoulders down and enjoy my self and the trombone sound. A good feeling we all need sometimes.

Maybe it's good to change the room we practice in from time to time? I'm very sure it's not a good thing to do it in one room all the time.
