I am thinking about recreating the Newell Sheridan trombone stand for personal use. I have seen pictures, but do not own one.

Questions-

1. What type of double braced stand? (I was thinking Dixon or cheaper). Where to buy?

2. Is there a commercial available wooden disc to hold the bell?

3. What to use on the top as a rubber stopper and where to buy?

I think the round small felt discs are the one purchased for under furniture.

I can answer a couple of your questions.

2. I used a steel face plate from something called a Gem Box (electrical fixture) that had a hole cut in the center. On top of this I placed the head of a rubber toilet plunger with the center drilled out to fit the pole.

3. You can use a cane tip (sourced from a pharmacy). A Hamilton stand uses 5/8" diameter. other poles may take 3/4" or 7/8".

Can't help about stand models, though.

This would be a cool project if you want to take the time to do it. I'm guessing many of your questions went through Newell's mind when I was thinking up the idea. IF you want to take the time to do this I'd search craigslist or a music store for a used Percussion piece and just use what you need. The wooden disk you might need to make. Have the right tools? Rubber stopper who knows? Felts are the easy part.

OR you can just buy a K&M and be done with it. Good luck.
