Loved my Olds Super, they are truly a beautiful horn with a distinct sound. I used a vintage Reynolds 12 mouthpiece on mine. I do regret parting with that horn…
Doug set me up with mine a few years ago…he has a great way of matching horn to player.

Interesting. I thought Reynolds shanks were larger than standard while Olds were smaller than standard shank

You were (in general) correct. Perhaps atopper333's Reynolds 12 mouthpiece was an outlier - I'm not familiar with that model.

It worked quite well. It was a Reynolds 12 with a star. Insertion depth was exactly where it needed to be. Don’t think I could tell you the vintage of the mouthpiece…it’s been quite awhile and I’m just not that knowledgeable about Reynolds equipment.
Could have been turned down for all I know…it had quite a bit of history on it prior to me picking it up!
It was similar to this mouthpiece currently on eBay:

Good point. Probably what the star ment. Did it play like a bach 12c? I'd like something more in the 7c range.

I've got a great Doug Elliott setup for my Olds Studio: D2/Olds Shank.; ST D Cup; ST 99 Rim.
Or you could have an ST 98 Rim to be closer to your 7C.
You could also go with a C2/Olds Shank and a shallower ST C Cup (and a Rim of your choice),
or a Large Tenor setup - D2 Olds Shank; LT D cup (larger); and your choice Rim.
Doug's Olds Shanks fit the Olds trombone receivers perfectly, and his Rims/Cups are much better than the vintage Olds 3 or Olds 1 mouthpieces. And his advice is free!

It played and felt pretty similar to a 12C. As I was just coming back to the horn after not playing for over 15 years at the time, it did well for me at the time. Now, it would feel a little smaller than I’d like.

I'd love to get one of Doug Elliott's mouthpieces but I can't afford them. I did work with him for my 78h. He sent me 100 and 102 rims. With a D cup and propr shank for the 78h.
I had to get teeth pulled and sent them back being discouraged.
I had difficulty with the 102 but the 100 felt very good.
Maybe he has a payment plan? Or maybe I should get the shank of my 7c turned down?

Meh, nevermind. I've decided to keep my 78h.
I need professional help I think

I think you're making the right choice. I've always wanted to love the 78h and admired those who could make it play. Although I love my Olds Recording, I think the 78 is a better choice than the Super.
