Echoes of the Band Room

I was seriously thinking about selling my old trombone, a King Tempo with a nickel finish. I pulled it out of storage, gave it a good cleaning, and pieced it back together… and something happened. I think I caught the bug again.

Suddenly, I’m back in the band room—second chair, trombone section, laughing, learning, and locking in with the rest of the crew. The camaraderie, the inside jokes, the thrill of prepping for that next show. I can still hear the echoes of Superman, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, or something by Chicago blaring through those stands like it was yesterday.

Honestly, I think I’ve forgotten everything I knew about playing (It's been about forty years). But holding that horn again? It still feels like home. There’s just nothing like the sound of a band coming together, every part blending, building something bigger than yourself.

Now a decision to make...

Welcome to Trombonechat.

The same thing happened to me. I started after 40 years off. Started with a concert band. Then found a jazz band (my favorite). Now I even have a bass trombone that I play in that jazz band. Playing now is different than high school. Much more fun.

What decision?

I took 30 years off from playing, then being buried in snow for three weeks started me playing again. Now I am addicted. It has been two years since I started playing again, and I can't believe I took all that time off. I'm having the best time of my entire life now!

Welcome! Jump on in, the water's fine.

It's the fragrance of slide oil that evokes the memories for me.
