Fellow T-boners-
I have tried for years to achieve the vibrato style that Allred and Fontana put at the end of a lot of their held notes during solos. It's not slide vibrato but it's wider than typical lip vibrato. It may incorporate what some call 'breath vibrato.' It's wide and when I try to get it that wide just using lip, I slip into partial tones (like a shake).
Can anybody break the code for me? As an example, below is a YouTube link to Allred soloing on "I Thought About You." He employs the vibrato I'm talking about throughout but there's an occurrence at 1:50 to illustrate what I'm talking about.
I know I'm kind of geeking out on this micro-topic but I sure would like to incorporate it into my own style.
Thanks for any tips you may have,
Neel Woods
