Fitting Slide to YBL-612 Early Model

I have an early model Ybl 612 and the inner slide was sheared off. I’ve scoured the internet for parts but yamaha no longer offers parts for my model as it was discontinued. I’ve been told I can fit a bach 50, edwards, or shires slide on the horn but I don’t know where I can find one and i’m unsure if it will fit.

I don't know which slides have the same or very similar size/threads as that Yamaha, but you can probably buy the small receiver part on the bell that accepts the slide for whatever slide you can find and have the original removed from the Yamaha and the new one soldered in it's place. There may be some pitch issues if a slide from another make is too short or long. Some trombone models are shorter in the bell and longer in the slide, or vice versa. Somebody who knows a bit about Yamahas might also know if the next generation of their horns has a comparable slide (some of the 613's are similar to the 612's).

You need to bring it to a tech. They will be able to measure the tubing precisely and check their sources for an adequate replacement tube. If no inner tube is available, they can replace both the broken inner and its corresponding outer with a matched set of tubes with proper clearances.

You do not need to match another brand's slide to your instrument. Read what Blabberbucket said. :)

According to part list search system, both upper and lower inner slide tubes can still be ordered. Apparently they are shared with the YBL-421G, which is a current production model, so they are not going anywhere soon.

Though I would agree that taking it to a tech and getting a quote for the repair would be sensible, FWIW the Yamaha 612Rii I used to own was a good fit for Bach/Edwards .547 slides (same fitting as Bach 50) and vice versa, the Yamaha slide worked ok on a Bach 42. The Yamaha slide was a bit shorter, ok with Yamaha slide and Bach bell for me as I mostly play in groups at A=442 but the Bach slide with Yamaha was on the flat slide with that tuning.
Not a guarantee that all Yamaha 612/612ii are compatible with Bach/Edwards!
