I'm selling my Yamaha V Valve tenor. Yellow Brass, .547, wide slide. This horn is the most expensive tenor trombone model Yamaha currently sells, and they only sell it in Japan. The valve (they call it the v valve) is absolutely fantastic and is the best valve I have ever played. It has the feel of a Thayer with less throw distance- it works like a piston that rotates rather than moving up and down.

It's in perfect mechanical condition, and mint cosmetic condition. You won't find one of these outside of Japan!

I was going to harvest the valve and put it on my Shires, but it's a little too risky for me. This horn would be my main axe but I prefer gold bells.

Asking $2750 USD + Shipping. Located in Toronto Canada but I am able to get over the border to ship it cheaper to the states.

Let me know if you have any questions!

If you'd prefer gold brass, you could have a tech fit one to the existing section without having to compromise the valve. People have great things to say about Ron Parch, in your area, and he should be able to do the work without too much of a hassle.

I've always been intrigued by these valves. Best of luck with the sale!

Yeah, in the grand scheme of things, that is actually a relatively simple and easily reversible procedure. You can do the whole thing without altering the valve at all. Probably your easiest bet would be to just get a neckpipe from Shires and have a tech fit the valve for it; they won't have a tapered neckpipe part that is the right length either way (they would if you had a rotary or a thayer for example). Your tech would just cut the neckpipe and retaper the portion after the valve. That said, sometimes with Yamaha, the valve actually is integrated with the handslide receiver so ti can be tricky for your tech but ultimately still reversible.

I can't imagine that the 882V bell is any different from the 882G (or even a 682). You could easily just put a gold 882G bell on your horn. Probably not more than 2 or 3 solder joints.

It's going to be very difficult to find a 682GV if you want to replace the horn with a gold brass version.

For what it's worth, I have a Yamaha 682 with a Shires 1G gold bell on it. I suspect you could have a Shires bell fitted to your horn as well. Won't be cheap, though. The 1G bell cost me as much as the whole 682 did. But that was quite a few years ago.

When I took the horn to Ron Partch to have it looked at, he mentioned himself that it would be risky to do surgery. The way the bell connects to the valve section is completely different from the shires way- hard to explain, but it was something I had never seen before. More worth it for me to sell it and use the cash to go shopping for new shires parts.

I'll start by saying absolutely anything can be done. The most direct course of action is take the old hardware, and install on a new bell. This is not a particularly hard job. With some additional photos and video, i could tell you exactly how to do it. If custom art need to be made, i can do that too.

If you can't get what you want for it lets talk, I'd be happy to do the job.
