This is a well used horn but plenty playable. Lacquer wear and a couple of dents plus a slide that's been previously repaired prior to my ownership. When properly lubed I'd give it a 7 out of 10. The slide felt, water key and slide lock are all in good working order. Also the the serial #'s on the slide and bell section don't match so somewhere along the line this horn was pieced together from two different horns. According to the Conn/Selmer web site the slide was made between '70 and '75 (452xxx) and the bell section between '40 and '45 (193xxx). The bell section is in amazingly good condition for being this old but it would also make it an H.N. White bell section?? The included case is a standard 7552 and is in very good condition. Some scuffing but nothing broken, detached, torn or missing. Comes with a Bach 6.5AL mouthpiece.
I've owned this trombone for about 5 years and bought it from the Brass Exchange. I've used it for all my tenor work but wanted something bigger with an F attachment (which I've acquired) so it's time to sell.
This would make a great starter or student horn.
I'm asking $500
As of right now I'll just post this one pic but I'm in the process of learning how to post pics online that ppl can view anytime so a link to more pics to come soon hopefully (Google?).
I'll ship it but according to UPS it will cost roughly $120 to ship accross the US in a box weighing 25lbs. USPS would be $198. I'd rather not ship it in the bare case (to lower the weight) but if someone wants me to I will. Otherwise if you live in northern CA maybe I can meet you somewhere to help sell it. Also I'll only ship to CONUS.
As of right now I can email pics if needed.

Cheers,
Robert

That bell is almost 100% not from the 40's or even 70's for that matter. Judging by the engraving probably no earlier than mid 2000's but someone else will know exactly when they switched to the modern loops.

What are the words engraved on the bell? Cannot tell from your photo - but it sure doesn't look as old as you think.
By the way, shipping by USPS is probably a lot cheaper - and quite reliable. Post Office is almost always better than UPS or FedEx.

Especially since the 3B was introduced in the 1950s.

Ok I think I know what happened. I went back to the Conn/Selmer web site to look at the serial numbers again and all the way down at the bottom is where the numbers re-start or go back to the 100k's after the last number reached 999,999. According to the chart this happened between '85 and '86. So that's got to be when this bell section was made. Maybe even more recent since the chart only goes to 159,464 and this horn shows 193xxx.

The case is similar to the cases King began using in the 90s (maybe late 80s?) and was still using until just a little while ago when they revamped the "legend" line.
90's bells (at least ones I had) had very minimalist engraving. My 3B from then just had "King 2103" on it - maybe a loop or two on it, but nothing like this. This bell is from the 2000s - maybe early 20teens?
The slide may be from an older 3B, hard to tell from the photos but given the wear in the nickel on the handgrip and elsewhere it could be an older slide - or just belonged to someone with acidic perspiration who didn't wipe the horn down. 3Bs from all eras share same slide connector unless modded. Possibly the slide came from a 3B from 70s and then was replaced with a later bell after an accident?

Shipped three horns to Forum/Chat members. First two via USPS went to Iceland and Wisconsin, no issues. Just shipped one to Virginia using UPS, horn arrived damaged like the box had been dropped hard on the end. It was in bubble wrap, secured in the case, and double boxed. I figured no problem, I paid for the extra insurance. UPS denied the claim saying I packed it wrong. I called their third party claims contractor seven times so far, all seven times got "This is Sabrina. I'm away from my desk or on another call. Leave your name, claim number, and a phone number where you can be reached and I'll return your call as soon as I can." Next call is to UPS directly!

I worked for UPS for 29 years and I can tell you I've seen some pretty horrible things happen to packages. It's usually the conveyer system that's hardest on packages, not the workers. UPS systems are designed for volume so it's all about pumping out massive amounts of volume in a short time frame. If there's a jam in the system all that volume will back up really quick and the packages at the front take a beating.
As far as customer service...I never worked in that area but I can tell you that big company won't spend a penny it doesn't have to so it's possible that the way they're handling your claim is their "default" way of handling all claims. It wouldn't surprise me.

I worked for insurance companies for over 30 years and know a lot of claim adjusters. Crawford, their 3rd party claims company, is well known to me. If they expect me to just give up, they are dead wrong! The last company I worked for used them for a while then dumped them in favor of an in house claims department which improved claims handling immensely. BTW I insured it for $700 and only want the cost of repairs incurred by the buyer, a heck of a lot less than that.

Now that the thread has been thoroughly hijacked, by me, I'll try and get it back on track. I love Kings (can you guess?) and I think the OPBflatbass has a bargain. If I didn't already have a classic 50s vintage 3B, I would be all over this horn.
