Bassoon stripes?

I played bassoon for a year+ in college. I had no idea that painting stripes on them was a thing.

It seems that painted stripes are intended to imitate "tiger stripe maple", the traditional bassoon substance.

The previous painted stripes look like a very sad imitation of[url=https://www.curlymaplewood.com/assets/images/rms-3673a.jpg]actual tiger stripe maple.
