I’ve used Kevin Powers for work a couple of times, but the last time I talked to him he seemed iffy about whether he was going to keep working for much longer. I know there’s some great techs in Chicago and Ohio, but I’m wondering if anyone knows of someone closer to the Detroit/Ann Arbor area who they’d recommend (ideally someone who also plays trombone).

Jacob Hoskins in Grand Rapids does great work! He used to be at Meridian Winds but moved to West Michigan Band a few years ago and does mostly custom work there. He’s done work for many of the higher profile trombone players in the state and some guys drive to GR from your area to get horns worked on by him.

He is a trumpet player, but entirely rebuilt a friend’s slide and it plays like new. He’s one of the few techs I trust my slide with.
