Yesterday my wife and I went to the Elbphilharmonie - which we rarely manage to do unfortunately - and listened to the NDR Elbphilharmonie orchestra under Herbert Blomstedt playing Bruckner 9. The orchestra is world class in my opinion (with lots of recordings available on Youtube), the principle horn was really fantastic and the low brass did a great job. Obviously the hall is great, extremely transparent, almost too much to my ears.
And then the 98 years old Herbert Blomstedt. The intepretation was great, with relatively little conducting, but very very precise where it mattered. It is so impressive how he does this at his age. He has conducted a lot in Hamburg, realistically this may have been one of his very last performances here.
Once it is available online, I will share the link!
