Sadly, I have to report the passing of our much loved and highly respected Tuba player here in Calgary, Tom McCaslin. Tom had successfully fought two bouts with cancer, but this latest illness left doctors in elite institutions in Canada and the US with more questions than answers, and proved to be too much ultimately for Tom.

He leaves behind a wife and two school-age children, as well as a brother and parents who are local - some are involved in the local music industry. He also leaves behind a heartbroken orchestra. We will miss that big, beautiful sound that was a foundation for the brass, and really for the entire orchestra. I will personally miss a friend that I could turn to for calm, practical advice when needed.

A great man, gone way too soon. RIP Tom.
