King small-bore slide differences?

Hi all,

Any ideas on slide differences between King 605, Cleveland Superior, 606, 1305, 1306, and 2b+ horns? Obviously there's the classic 2B slide that started the whole thing, along with the Jiggs single-bore .490 slide. Curious about bore differences/leadpipe differences and what might match up well with a 3B I love to pieces. I could see a 606 or 1306 slide actually being a reasonable match for it.

Hey! Currently going through this process myself. I spent a ton of time checking out posts on here, specifically from Finetales. I'll give you what I have so far:

I currently own:

King 606

King 1306

King 2B+

King 3BF Silversonic

King 606: .500 bore slide, all brass outers, and a fairly stuffy lead pipe. Actually plays pretty good when mated up to my 3BF bell section.

1306: This slide is weird. All nickel .500 design. I have to fight it on my 3BF bell, but it works pretty good with the OG 1306 Bell. I'm thinkin of pulling the leadpipe on this. The outer/inners are swappable with the 606, but NOT the 2B+, which I find confusing as they're ALL .500 bore.

2B+: This is my preferred slide on my 3BF, and my go-to horn for nearly everything minus symphony gigs. King definitely upgrades the leadpipe on this slide, and it's buttery smooth. This is what I would recommend to put on a 3B bell, especially if you're using it for lead/pop/funk bands.

The 3 slide options above will mate to a 3B with no modifications needed. Threading might not be all the way locked down, but it works perfectly fine. You would need to change the receiver on either slide or bell section if you were trying to put on a 1305/2b slide. Cleveland Superior = .491" yellow, fits 2B

605/605F Cleveland = .491" yellow, fits 2B

606 (sometimes Tempo) = .500" yellow, fits 3B

306 Tempo = .500 nickel, fits 3B? (I need to get a 306 to try it for myself, there's very little info about this model)

1305 Tempo = .491" yellow or nickel, fits 2B

1306 Tempo/1506 Super Tempo = .500" nickel, fits 3B

2B+ = .500" yellow or nickel, fits 3B

The narrow chassis horns (Superior, 605, 606, 1306, 1506) have slightly shorter slides than the wide chassis horns (306, 606, 1305, 2B+), so you'll have to put the tuning slide in a slightly different place when interchanging slides, but they all fit every bell in their tenon family. I've messed around a little bit with using my 1306 slide on my 3B bell section and vice versa. It definitely works!

Fruitysloth just mentioned pulling the pipe on the 1306 slide, which I did with mine. I didn't feel like the stock pipe was the greatest, definitely not 2B/2B+/3B quality. I have a press-fit Kanstul HO pipe in there now, and it's excellent.

Seems like the 1306 might be a nice horn to try out if I can come across one in decent shape. My 3B can do just about everything I ask of it right now, but sometimes you want just a little more cut in a big band or an amplified session. If I understand the physics right, the Tempo bell goes non-linear a little more quickly than the 3B bell (eg <LINK_TEXT text="https://newt.phys.unsw.edu.au/music/peo ... r1999a.pdf">https://newt.phys.unsw.edu.au/music/people/publications/Fletcher1999a.pdf</LINK_TEXT>).
