That's definitely Hart Smith in the lead chair. I got to know him a bit in the 80s.

Such a great band.

Listened to them a lot when I was in high school attempting to learn to play like big band like this. ;)

This was the second professional big band I saw in person when I was growing up. The first was Maynard… I was blown away by the Akiyoshi/Tabakin Big Band. The players in the section I saw were Bill Reichenbach, Bruce Fowler, Jim Sawyer, and Phil Teele. In this video the only one I can make out is Conrad Herwig.
