I'm on the west coast and 5 hours away from midnight but here at the senior center we're celebrating on Eastern standard time :good:

I also played new years at a retirement home, where the ball dropped at 8:30 pm. Plenty of time to get back home in time for the real thing.

At our habitual NY's Eve "living center" gig (sounds better than "retirement home"?), we drop it at 8:00 and the conductor explains that's "Azores time". It's after dinner at the center, the audience then listens to us and dances, and at 8:00 are prepared to retire for the night. This also lets us all drive home before there is too much alcohol-enhanced traffic on the roads.
