Anyone on the forum taken apart a Hamilton stand? I'd love to be able to separate the two parts for more compact storage. I'd also like to be able to repurpose the base for percussion stuff and/or put the top into a snare stand. I suppose you could also take off the bell stop and put it on a straight cymbal stand of the proper diameter.

The older Hamilton stands were designed to come apart. The newer ones (well, circa 2003) aren't. I tried anyway. You can take off the rubber tip and the adjustable cone, and slide the tube out the bottom. I found a bit of tape on the tube making it too wide to come out of the top. Removing the tape indeed made the stand easy to disassemble, but it wobbled like crazy. The tape adds diameter to the inner tube that is really necessary.

One of these days I need to track down a new rubber thingy for the top of my Hamilton stand. It's gotta be over 30 years old. I pretty much only use it for alto trombone now.
