I’m looking for some biographical information on Oskar Blume (12 duets, 36 studies). A basic Google search, Google books, AND Google scholar have failed to even turn up a DOB or DOD. QPress (qpress.ca) claims under their editions of the 36 studies that there isn’t much information known about him but that Oskar Blume may have been a pseudonym.

Any information or clues would be very helpful. Thank you!

There is little information about Oskar Blume. There is speculation that this is a pseudonym used by another composer when writing for brass. He may also be Oskaer Biedermann, born in 1859 in Liegnitz. It is presumed that he was a brass teacher and performer.

I would be interested in learning more as well. I haven't looked closely at all of the studies, but some of them were apparently "borrowed" (without credit) from Belcke. A few examples:

O. Blume 36 Studies, #2 is from Friedrich-August Belcke's 12 Studies, Op. 42, #1.

36 Studies, #6 is Belcke's 7 Studies for Bass Trombone, Op. 62, #7

36 Studies, #7 is I believe again from Belcke, but I don't have the original source reference handy. It shows up (with credit) in Robert Mueller's Technical Studies vol III as #19, and also on pg. 7 as Marcia, Eb Major in Voxman's Selected Studies.

There are perhaps other examples, but those are the first few that came to mind.

This is what I was referencing in my post. They didn’t cite anything for this claim so I’m not sure how they came to this conclusion.
