Sad to announce the passing of John Wallace, the Scottish trumpet player on January 11th.
Like so many British brass players, he started in brass bands but later became a leading orchestral trumpeter and was principal trumpet of the Philharmonia Orchestra in London for almost 20 years. He started the Wallace Collection brass group but is probably best remembered for the Soprano and trumpet duet with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981.
Relevance to trombone players? He gave his name to an excellent range of mutes for brass instruments.
Cheers
