Hi all,

I want to send a shout-out to Harrison Reed & his company Harry’s Custom Mouthpieces (HCM). Harrison sent me an “experimental” mouthpiece for me to test out. It’s basically a 4.5G rim with a big boy bass cup/throat/backbore, which is perfect for a doubler like me who wants to focus on alto/tenor, but gets asked from time to time to play something simple on bass.

So here is what I noticed: it sounds like a bass mouthpiece! The sound is stable, it’s in tune, it’s a nice focused sound, good loud and soft. Solid mouthpiece!

I’ve also seen a video recently where William Lang showcases one of his alto mouthpieces compared to his Mount Vernon Bach, and I can confidently say Harrison’s mouthpiece sounds easier and more stable.

I’ll make a video at a future time, but right now my brain is still trying to comprehend the 2nd trigger.

Thanks for the kind words Brian! Glad you like the X1!

Since the X series are all experiments, there will never ever be another X1 again. The next experiment I do will be the X2, etc.

That design will now be the basis for the doubler bass mouthpieces I'll make going forward, at least with that cup/backbore strategy.
