Hi! Anyone heard of Ecoll trombones? Found one for sale at a swedish site. Looks like a German horn, but can't find any info at all when googling for Ecoll trombone.

Can you post a link to the Swedish site so we can take a look at it?
Some of the people who sell instruments made in China will go to great lengths to make it look like they are made elsewhere...

Definitely doesn't look like it's from China.
Here is an Ecoll trumpet:

Looks like maybe Ecoll was a Keilwerth stencil? Lotsa different brands have come out of the area around Markneukirchen and Kraslice over the years.
It lacks the ornamentation one sees on a lot of older German-style trombones.

Typical German style (which includes Bohemia, Austria, Poland) trombone. The case is also typical. It's very hard to identify and date these, as there has been countless small workshops making them from the mid-late 19th century until today. Many have no makers mark, and many only have the retailer brand (I.e. stencil horns). They are also much less standardized than American trombones - a Bach 42 from 1970 and one from this year have differences but both are recognizable as a Bach 42, whereas two instruments by the same German maker from different times (and sometimes even contemporary) can look completely different.
The tuning slide may indicate a later date, and particularly the waterkey points to a later date, probably post-WW2 (but could be earlier).

That's on the low side (for now) but not an uncommon price range to pay for that type of instruments (although with the valve and particularly the convertible valve they tend to go for more) on German eBay or classifieds sites. I just got one quite similar to this, with the convertible bell section, for 200 euros shipped (although I got screwed over the Swiss import tax and VAT afterwards). In fact I wouldn't pay much more than that, as they are rarely in playing conditions (the slides usually need some work) and because of the difficulty in identifying and dating them it's hard to know in advance it's going to be good or a piece of junk.
