Yup. It's for bands that are way too loud and have a sound guy who stinks. It's a real thing.

That's a lot of money for what it is. I usually see a sound man cut a piece of plexiglass with a hole in the middle for the mic. Mounts on the mic stand.

I think this is intended to be an instructional aid. The concept is supposed to reflect back a portion of the sound but not interfere with the overall projection. (No idea if it works - seems kind of goofy to me)
