Was the Conn /Benge/UMI "Marcellus" mouthpiece available with a small shank?

Not that I know of.

I think such a mouthpiece (roughly 5G size in the Bach world, with a deep V-shaped cup) would be rather large for most small-shank applications - but I've seen folks use a similarly-sized small-shank Schilke 51D, so what do I know? :idk:

Big, Maybe.. But with a tighter throat.. Remember, a Bach 36 and even a Conn 78H can be used symphonically...would make a good " one size fits all" piece.. :good:

The large-shank Marcellus does not have a "tight throat" - it's 6.40mm (0.252") diameter; cup I.D is 25.50mm per spec.

Closest small-shank in the Bach family is probably Bach 5GS, also 25.50mm cup, 6.63mm (0.261") throat - or just a touch larger than a 6½AL. Certainly a reasonable option for a Bach 36 or Conn 78H/79H, especially in a "concert" setting. (My oversight - I was originally thinking small-bore trombones when I said a small-shank Marcellus might be too large.) :oops:

• Giardinelli 4M

• Giddings "Harry Watters"

• Hammond 12M

• Josef Klier 7C

• Laskey 54M

I suppose that the throat is not right per se, but with this rim/Cup size i think its comparatively small.. This was my favourite piece when i played Tenor exclusively so i am having someone make one of them with a 1 1/2G rim to make bass doubling easier..
