Hi everyone!

I'm still looking for my ideal mouthpiece, after trying a lot I think what I need is something between a schilke 51 and a 5g bach, maybe a ring of 51 with a smaller cup. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Check out Harrison Reed's Conn 5G mouthpiece – it might be what you're looking for.

The Yamaha 51C4 has a slightly shallower cup than the Yamaha 51 and the Bach 5G. With my ears and horn, it is as full and deep as the 5G but with just a little more treble energy (which I hear as a little more zest, life, and sparkle).

Yamaha offers four different cup depths with the 51 rim. Shallow to deep: 51A, 51C4, 51*, 51D.

*Nearest Yamaha mouthpiece to a Bach 5G

A Rath L5BB Lightweight is what you are looking for. I spent ages trying mouthpieces around that size range until spending my hard-earned cash on one of these.

Schilke 51B or Giardinelli Symph-AL (feels more spacious to me).

After trying many different options and playing the Schilke 51B for 25+ years, I landed on a Doug Elliott setup for my .522" Conns - LT102 rim LT-D cup, D4 shank

The Schilke 51C4 is a good mouthpiece that might be what you're looking for. It is shallower than the 51, but not as shallow as the 51B. The rim is a bit flatter than the 51, but it is otherwise quite similar in the rim size.

I'm with Jim Scott on this one. Folks who are "in the know" will tell you that Ralph Sauer uses a custom Schilke mouthpiece that has the rim of the Schilke 51, with the cup of a Schilke 50.

I'm not "in the know," but that seems close enough to a regularly available Schilke 51C4 to me.

As I remember, the 51c4 was the size you wanted, but to me had a painfully sharp edge on the inner rim.

Maybe a yamaha 52... yam sizes seem about one smaller than matching schilke.
