This one is a hard one to let go. In my not so humble opinion, this is about as good as it gets for a jazz trombone

1960 - serial number 383,XXX- HN White King 3B Silversonic -Solid Sterling silver bell- with gold plating inside -professional jazz trombone.

It came to me from a young man that wanted a lighter horn to play salsa- hard to fathom from my viewpoint. It had some tarnish under the lacquer on the bell throat, the normal lacquer wear on the hand slide, and the slide needed cleaning. We carefully stripped the lacquer on the outside of the bell and both pieces of the hand slide then relacquerd and baked. The horn is gorgeous. Slide was thoroughly cleaned and aligned. It is fast free and as smooth as it gets. Only flaws are a small spot on the inside of the bell where the silver shows through and a bit of lacquer wear on the back of the tuning slide. Horn is dent free and we did not have to remove any dents.

It plays wonderfully. Warm and dark as you milk it and then brightening up as you pour the air through it. It makes the sound you envision when you think of a jazz trombone.

Comes with the cool King faux alligator case in similar great shape - even the leather slide straps are intact- and a Bach 6 1/'2 AL mouthpiece that I like with it.

It looks like HN White is selling similar condition vintage SS 3Bs for around $3000 and WWBW is selling new ones for $3400.

I think it should easily be worth $2195 plus shipping which should be about $75 in the US and $125 to Europe.

Are you obligated to sell on eBay at this point?

You are never really obligated to sell on Ebay but once you have a bid, if you sell outside ebay, they charge you their commission based on the top bid at the time you close the auction. If an outside offer is high enough it would make sense to close the auction and sell. There is some ethical obligation to Ebay bidders who have bid in good faith
