Looking for a square cross-section coffin style case for a King 2B. I have two slides for it, and would like to build a second slide compartment on the inside of the case, so I need something with the larger mute compartment, or something that originally held a valve trombone. Also trying to keep costs down.
Thanks

Hey there,
I have a 2B coffin case in the garage that might suit your needs. Message me with an email address and I'll send some photos your way.

Hi Steve, I have a 2B coffin case from the late 40's but it is very beat, and really cannot be used without a some major repairs to the exterior. I've been putting a little thought into how to do it; I do not want to take it down to bare wood like I have in the past for two reasons: 1) The wood is already coming apart at the joints, and removing the remaining cover and hardware would likely ruin it. 2) the hinges, latches and handles are functioning just fine, although they are a bit rusty.
The inside has wear, but could probably be used as-is after a cleaning. It does not smell. It is the style where the slide rides on the lid, and there is plenty of room for the bell and mutes in the lower section.
I may try to cover what's left of the existing cover with new tolex (using contact cement) and trim around the hardware. It may work, it may turn into a hopeless mess, but if it came out OK and I were to sell it, of course I would want to re-coup something for my efforts.
Anyway, if you would like the case as-is, you are welcome to it for the cost of shipping - probably around $45?
