I recently started playing trombone again after not playing for 32 years. I'll bet there are some Bach historians who can help me understand the numbers stamped by the rotor valve and on the slide. I got the horn brand new in late 1976. The number stamped by the valve is 780, and the number on the slide is 23576. Can anyone help me understand the numbers? Thanks!

The long number is your serial, which dates it to '76 as you mentioned. The other is a number used in the manufacture, I'm not totally clear on what they mean exactly. Someone else may have more info.

The serial number for a Bach should be on the tenon side cork barrel, usually under the model number. There's also usually a model number stamped on the bell. On Bachs, I think any numbers on the bell section are just for reference, and helping to match the parts back together. And of course, LT before the name means it has a "lightweight" nickel silver outer slide.
