question about bass line in the Ride

I've never played this with an orchestra. Well, I've hardly played anything with an orchestra, at least not since college.
This morning on public radio the Met Opera was playing the Ride. The bass line was distinctly behind the beat in some large sections. Is that deliberate? I've not seen the score.

Sounds like they were just slow. Low brass are the farthest away from the conductor, after all.

Was it a recording of the Orchestra or live? What section are you referring to?

I don't know what version. I just listened to it on youtube and did not hear that delayed part. I think it was around 3:48 on the radio.

You'd be surprised of some recordings that exist out there with some pretty brutal mistakes in them. I've heard wrong notes, orchestra tears, and notes horrendously out of tune in published recordings. From what I understand, a lot of them are simply live recordings that get published because they have a deal to release them, and they don't want to do recording sessions.
