So I still haven't found my dream leadpipe! The Minick is making it hard for me.

I'm looking for larger more open pipes. The smaller stuff isn't jiving with the horn. Let me know what you have. Prefer press fit on all of these but if they have threads we can still work something out!

I also have pipes to trade! I'm amassing quite the collection haha. I'll be posting a thread with pipes for sale once I find what I'm looking for.

For sure looking for...

Bass Shires 2.5

Bass Shires 3

Elkhart 62h pipe if anyone has one that's been pulled from their horn.

MK Drawing MV50B pipe

Others!

Not interested in Edwards/Getzen pipes at the moment

Most interested in the Shires pipes!!!

Hope to hear from you guys!

What pipe(s) are you using at the moment, and what are you after that you aren't getting?

I've done a bit of Bass pipe experimenting recently and while different pipes alter the feel and sound of the horn the mouthpiece/leadpipe combination has a big effect as well. Some pieces you may have ruled out with pipe "A" may come back into play with pipe "B".

I won't prejudice your search with "brand names" of what worked for me, just that when you hit upon a combo that works you'll sure know about it.

Enjoy the search, at least half the adventure is the journey!

I recently did a valve swap on my Minick. I have a pretty big suspicion the former rotors were opened up so between the new Olsens and the horn being rebraced the horn seems to want something more open with the leadpipe.

Currently using a Symington 1 1/2 which is totally a factor in this too. Smaller mouthpiece, smaller horn, needs a bigger leadpipe. I like the Symington and don't want to switch mouthpieces if I don't have to.

My MK Roberts pipe seems to be doing a good job but just trying everything I can to find the perfect fit.

Told you to leave the valves and go for heavy oil.... ah well....

You can forget a lot of those pipes.... had or got most of them.

An Elkhart 62 pipe is good.... so is a 70H pipe... but they vary.... left field... Callet pipe...regret selling mine...

Forget the Kanstul,Shires and Brass Ark pipes.... all good for various things, but not open in your horn.

If you are still needing more open after trying some, I have a cut down Rath contra pipe... OOOpen

FOSSIL...…..glad you mentioned the Jerry Callet pipe. I bought one for my Elkhart 62H, and, I have stuck with it since around 2002. I also have original Minick C & L pipes I used before the Callet pipe. I bet Ron Partch is still making those Callet pipes. I believe mine shipped from Toronto when I ordered it from Callet. After I sent my horn to Minick, I had Minick pipes and the Callet pipes made in Bach-taper. So much easier and cheaper to get mouthpieces after that decision! :good:

I appreciate all the comments and advice guys!

Chris, I should have listened to you but I have no regrets at the end of the day.

I wanted to make the horn usable as a daily driver and I have accomplished exactly that. The horn does play a little different but it plays significantly better than it did before. The journey getting there has been a little bumpy... It's taken almost 3 months to figure out and iron out all the kinks.

I'll post a full update of my experiences fixing up the horn once John Sandhagen gets the last parts in for a new handslide

It's been a bit like buying a vintage car. Runs great for a while but once you start fixing things it seems to have an endless number of small unaddressed issues from 20-30 years ago.

I have no plans on ever selling this horn and it'll go with me to my grave!

I also updated my first post. I'm most interested in picking up a Shires #2.5 or #3 bass pipe!

Still looking guys! Seller ended up backing out on the #3 pipe so I'm still looking for a #2 and #3!

If I don't find anything this week I'll probably just end up picking something up from horn guys next weekend.
