It's in excellent condition; after trying it I just can't see myself ever choosing to leave the valve home.

Item was destroyed in shipping. Packed in a USPS priority mail envelope, in one layer of bubble tape and a pillow case. Come on people. WHO SHIPS A FRAGILE, EXPENSIVE ITEM LIKE THIS? Waiting for Seller to work out a refund with me.

Do not purchase anything from Michael Ventoso, or

This is outrageous. The guy sent me this, packed so negligently, and will not send me a refund or work it out. Warning, do not purchase anything from Michael Ventoso .

I leave for a rehearsal and to help a friend move a refrigerator and come back to this and more than a dozen emails? We have been exchanging emails today and I was trying to be very thorough and work this out. I don't need to air my grievances here but this is not a one-sided problem.

This is in fact a one-sided problem.

You shipped it in an envelope wrapped in a pillow case.... and Im out $310 ... still no refund.

I have 5 star ratings on Ebay & on Reverb. I always will work out a return with the customer.

Yes, the post office damaged the item, but you shipped it carelessly. You aren't out $310 I am. I'm happy to send you you back your straight section just give me back my money.

Who would want to buy something from someone, who ships their stuff so carelessly that it comes to them completely ruined, bent to an extent that it wont fit the threads, and the seller's response is " I dont see any issue" .... Forums like this should be a collegial, honorable, and friendly place built on the trust that they arent going to get screwed by someone ... That is something that other forums have a universal, unspoken, principal, and which I imagine most people here would hold to be the case.... So what recourse is there, if you cannot appeal a Paypal "friends and family" transaction, and the buyer just doesnt own up to their mistake of ruining the item by throwing it unprotected into the meat grinder which is the mail system, and then says " what's the issue".... anyways, until I get a refund for this purchase, it isnt slander to suggest that this guy is a lowsey person to deal with.

Fortunately, this issue is actually quit common and not likely to be the result of the shipping method. Shires (and really any of the modular makers) frequently do not fit when you're buying between various vintages. If the serial is a lower #, it's just about guaranteed not to fit if the bell you are putting it on is more recent. They simply changed the bracing locations. And, of course, over time these tolerances may well change too (especially if it was stored in a side compartment of a case or something for 10 years, which is surprisingly common).

Usually it takes a light torch at either the tuning slide or the slide receiver to minimally adjust the angle. Fortunately, straight pipes really only have two solder points and the rest is brazed together. F attachments are a bit of a different story (many more solder points). Just be weary any time you order modular stuff it's likely to not fit and might require a few bucks to get it to work with your horns. But I'd strongly recommend taking it to a tech; I've had this exact issue fixed on a few straight pipes that I've owned over the years for less than $20 each. I've never asked a seller to refund this amount personally because I always assume it'll need a little work to get exactly right.

This is assuming, of course, that your description "to an extent that it won't fit the threads" is the extent of the damage and not "ruined, bent" means like 30 degree angle bent. That would be much more extensive. It would be best to make a claim with your carrier in that case. See below linked thread for more details about protecting yourself when shipping. Technically you get something like $50 from USPS but there are a lot of caveats to that, plus whatever was purchased on top of that.

With that said, I'm going to go ahead and lock this; please work this out between yourselves. If you want to further discuss how to protect yourself when dealing online, feel free to visit the other thread. Another pertinent thread about shipping can be found [url=https://trombonechat.com/viewtopic.php?t=9079]here. As I mentioned in your other thread, there a lot of people request that you use F&F transactions over PayPal to avoid the fee; I exclusively add the 2.5% or whatever fee on top of their request because I have a business account but also because I get protection. While it's a nice idea to think everyone is acting in good faith, we do operate on a principle of caveat emptor. Do not assume anyone is collegial or honorable, let alone trustworthy.
