Some tenors for sale. I am reducing my collection.

1. Bach Stradivarius LT12 trombone. This is a .500-bore Bach pro straight trombone. The bell section is from the mid-1990’s and the slide is a NEW old stock slide from the early 1990’s. Slide is the lightweight nickel variety - no oversleeves. The horn does not have (nor need, in my opinion) a counterweight. It is light as a feather! Bell has no lacquer and no signs of damage or repairs. Comes in a contoured Mt Vernon-era case that is in good shape. $1200 + shipping + fees **SOLD**

2. Bach Stradivarius 36B. Here is a great playing Bach 36 Bb/F trombone from 1986 or so. Open-wrap, yellow brass bell, .525-bore, valve is nice, slide is very good, some lacquer loss but only trivial dings, if any. Case is a Bach brownie zipper case from the 1990s. $800 + shipping **SOLD LOCALLY**

3. Bach Corp 36 straight tenor. I went through a 36 phase and bought a handful. This was the best playing straight 36. Made in the late 1970s. Slide is excellent! Comes in a Bach contoured case from the correct period. I can take photos. $1000 + shipping

4. Benge 190F Bb/F trombone from mid-2000s?. The bell section on this one looks almost new, and the slide has some lacquer loss at the touch points but is otherwise in great shape. I have read that these later 190’s had different leadpipes, so my plan was to swap it out but I never got that far. Comes in a non-original 190F case in decent shape. Burgundy color with crushed velour interior. I can take photos. $650 + shipping **SOLD**

5. Holton TR150. Decent shape. Could use some slide work but it is not bad. I call this one "great potential"! I don't really like Holtons, except the basses, but some folks do. I can take photos. $400 + shipping. **SOLD**

8. HN White King 3B from the 1960s. Nice! Comes in original faux-gator case. This is my favorite of all the interesting cases White/King used! Horn also has the correct 3-piece counterweight. Slide action is very good and the horn plays great! I can include a mouthpiece of some sort. $900 + shipping. **SOLD**

9. Yamaha 352 small-bore (.500) student horn with original mustard yellow case and literature. Probably from the 1970s. This horn is in great shape. I bought it several years ago from the original (adult) owner. Only light signs of use. Has oversleeves! Slide is excellent and it plays! More sizzle than the newer 354’s. I can tell you exactly. $95 for Priority and $145 for Priority Express. This includes insurance.

What is the weight and balance like on the Bach 36? I’ve been unable to find any in my area to try. I’ve tried a Bach 42 with F attachment which wasn’t too bad and a Bach LT16M which was a great weight and balance but way out of my price range. I’ve also tried a King 3B with F attachment and that was quite heavy (my shoulder hurt after an hour and a half of practice). I have enough arthritis that I’m trying to find something lighter or at least well balanced that also fits my community band.

Well, others might chime in here...

But I think straight 36's have great balance. The stock counterweight is pretty heavy and, I think, correct for the horn.

I also have 36C (convertible) and 36BO (open wrap) models for sale. The 36C is a bit nose-heavy. The 36BO balances and feels just right. I generally think standard wrap horns play fine, but in the case of the Bach 36 I think the open-wrap versions feels better.

I’m switching to a straight horn both because of the weight and because I’ve just never managed in about 4 years of trying to reprogram my brain to use trigger positions instead of standard ones.

(Also, I have an actual additional excuse to shop around - my vintage horns are small bore and my off-brand F-attachment large bore horn has developed an issue with an air leak in the tuning slide area and/or some sort of resonance/vibration there and in the trigger. Will get a quote to fix it because it’s got a great slide and actually normally plays pretty well but may not be worth repairing because - well, off-brand.)

It looks like I have a buyer for the Bach. I will post an update tomorrow...

I’ve been trying to get my hands on a straight Bach to see how I like the horns in general if played for more than a few minutes. At this point, I’m pretty sure I’m looking at either a Bach or Yamaha and probably a .525 though the right .508 might tempt me. I thought I’d like a King but trying a couple out proved they weren’t my preferred make for whatever reason, hence why I’d really like to try a straight Bach (tried a new F attachment 42 at the music store and liked it fairly well). I’m hoping the guy with the straight LT16M will be at the next practice and let me try his horn for a bit longer (he’s been out of town for a few weeks).
