For Sale:
Shires alto trombone with Bb valve. Tuning in slide. A7YLW yellow light weight bell. A85-95 dual bore slide with yellow outers and nickel crook (.485-.495 bore). Comes with 4 leadpipes (1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5). No case.
The horn is in excellent condition. I have used it regularly since I bought it in 2014. It was probably one of the last altos Shires made before the Eastman buy out (Shires went bankrupt while I was waiting for delivery). It's served me well through lots of gigs, recitals, and auditions. It plays very well and makes a colorful beautiful sound, but I've decided I prefer the response characteristics of a different brand. Mechanically, everything works great. Lacquer is excellent. The only blemish is a solder joint in the valve tubing that has acid bleed (it's in the photos).
Asking $3500. I'll consider trade plus cash for a yamaha alto with no valve (or other interesting straight altos?). If you've been lusting after a Shires with valve and have a straight horn, this is your big chance!
