For sale is a Bach 42B with lots of extras. I purchased the horn used about 1 ½ years ago from Aidan Ritchie here on TC, who had a lot of custom work done. I also had some custom work done, found a nice case, and now I’m offering it for sale. The slide has serial no. 119xxx, indicating mid-1990’s, but the two bells are both Corporation era. The kit contains:
One Corporation era Bach 42 yellow brass bell with custom scratch finish
One Corporation era Bach 42 gold brass bell
Bell section:
Instrument Innovations rotary valve
O.E. Thayer valve tubing
Open neckpipe
Edwards bell mountings and screws
Two (2) Bach main tuning slides
Slide:
M/K Drawing and Bending nickel crook
Saturn water key
M/K threaded leadpipe adaptor
Three (3) leadpipes each with threaded collars:
Stock 42
M/K 42 yellow
M/K 42 gold
Basili black leather case
The custom work and repair is by John Sandhagen and Benn Hansson.
As you might guess, the horn feels open, but there is still the resistance necessary to produce “that Bach sound.” The horn is very light and well-balanced. It has a brighter, clearer sound compared to some 42’s I’ve played. It projects well. If I were to keep this horn, I would have more work done, but I’ve found a horn I like better.
I will sell this instrument as is with the Basili leather case, as shown. If you are interested in just the instrument without the Basili case, we can talk. Included is an old Bach case that came with the horn. I reinforced it with black tape and glue. It’s good for storing parts, but it’s definitely not a gigging case.
Price: $2800. S&H to North America only; price to be determined.
Feel free to PM me here on TC or my email: e p o s a u n e @ c o m c a s t . n e t with questions or requests for more pics.
