Any idea what the bell size is on your horn? And is yours a fixed bell? Looks like it is from the pictures...

Fun fact but I think your horn isn't a 975-2 but it's actually on of the 11 or so prototype Euphoniums! I think the original fixed horns were the model 976? I can't remember anymore haha.

A good give away if it was a prototype or not is the Custom Class engraving. NeoBri has my old Kanstul Prototype for sale here in the forums and it looks almost identical to your horn. Except I think yours might be all Yellow Brass...

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you want to talk abou the Kanstul Euphs! I know the guy who helped Zig design the Euphs and he liked to talk my ear off about them everytime I took my Kanstul out of the case.

12" fixed bell. When I got the instrument I E-mailed Kanstul with the serial number and they told me it was made in April 2008, nothing about it being a prototype though. It has the Custom Class engraving on the bell, no model number in sight though. If it is a prototype I had no idea! Would love more information about the differences.

Interesting! I know mine was November 2007 and mine was one of the first 7 prototypes... so yours was either one of the last prototypes or one of the first production models.

The biggest difference is the 975-2? or 976-2? is actually the version with the detachable bell. The -2 denoted the revision to the horn. That model usually came with a 12" bell in various metals. The early prototypes also had a different leadpipe from the later ones. The early ones had more of the sharper bend Z shape leadpipes while the later production ones had the smoother S shaped leadpipes. I think the fingure buttons are also different between the early prototypes and later horns... The ones on mine were big pancakes!

Zig totally borrowed a ton of parts between models. Some of the larger tubing like the hand brace is just a bent outer slide tube from a trombone haha. Or so the legend goes!

As far as I know, there weren't very many made in the fixed bell configuration. Mostly just the prototypes and maybe a handful of production models.

Mine was weird and had a hefty 11" GB bell! Super fun horn! I like my Besson more though :p

I'll make another post if I remember anything else tonight... or I can dig up any of the emails between my friend and I. It's been years since I thought about this stuff!

Ah, I assumed the -2 meant nickel plating. So would this be a 975 or 976? (no -2)

Big pancakes on mine as well.

I always assumed that the detachable ones were the anomalies and the fixed bell like mine was the norm. Wild!

If anybody decides what they really need to stay occupied during their quarantine is a nice euphonium from a recently defunct American manufaucturer, you've come to the right place!

What? Nobody? What are you people even DOING with your quarantines???
