This is a fine and beautiful instrument with a long history, built back when Holton were doing notably good things; the serial number dates from early in 1966. The bell is stamped

as can be seen in pictures.
This is a .547" bore tenor with a 9" bell, and can be played very big indeed if you push it (horses four counties over were frightened by the close of one particular Shostakovich 'Leningrad'...). Quite a wide-slotting instrument with a tone quality that can be readily shaped but sits naturally on the rounder side of large bore tenor. Unusually good in the low register for a .547" instrument. Think how a Holton bass plays - this is the large tenor version. Slide is smooth, as good as any slide of that age I've encountered, and with barely any plating wear (see pictures). Lacquer has the odd spot, but is in remarkably good condition overall for an instrument of its age, and it is overall without any visible dents (again see pictures). All moving parts are in good mechanical order and a previous owner added an attractive wooden cover to the trigger thumb lever (pictures). Trigger mechanism has an unusual and eye-catching geometry (pictures) that works well. Selling to help fund house building work - I play bass, I don't need more than one large bore tenor. Comes in a Gewa gig bag (pictures) - will be posted securely in much polystyrene packing foam.
Price: £1000 / $1400 / €1200, buyer to pay postage (will calculate based on location - currently in Oxford, UK). No returns. Open to trade ideas. Payment by PayPal preferred. Message me here or email
if interested.
