Selling for a friend of mine who’s trading this towards a custom Schlub Brass Works jazz trombone.

This is an Elkhart Conn 48H Constellation that belonged to legendary drummer (yes that’s correct) John Von Ohlen back when he played trombone. Von Ohlen played for Woody Herman and Stan Kenton back in the 60’s-70’s. When he passed away two years ago, my friend received it.

The 48h is similar to the venerable 6H, but meant more for the Jazz market as far as I could tell. Features a nickel silver bell, yellow brass tuning slide, and yellow brass hand slide. The 6H used red brass, so the Constellation would definitely have a bit more punch.

Playing wise, it’s a fantastic instrument. .500 bore makes it versatile in most settings. High range feels really secure, and that nickel bell can really project when pushed! The low range is beefy and solid. In the soft dynamics it can get a really nice warm sound that still projects. This is a great horn for someone looking for a good small bore horn, or a vintage trombone on a budget.

It’s got scratches on the surface, but no dings. Slide is an 8/10. It has that infamous Conn Wear on the stockings, but as long as it’s well aligned and lubed it will do just fine. My shop is doing a slide alignment on it so I will post a Dropbox link with pictures as soon as that’s done.

$800 plus shipping. Shipping typically is about $60 CONUS.
