I was taking a closer look at a Hammond 12ML large shank mouthpiece I purchased used over the summer and noticed a couple markings on it that I don’t have on my small shank 12ML. I’m curious if anyone knows what they mean and if there may be any difference between this one and a 12ML without the markings on it?

I would contact Hammond directly. They are usually quite responsive. It's also possible that those markings are not ones that they added.

I’m not sure about the 3, but the V is probably for Santa Clara Vanguard.

Just a complete guess but if it was part of a drum corps perhaps they had a bunch of identical mouthpieces numbered so you would know which is yours?

So after a bit of googling it turns out you are 100% correct.

Hammond did a series of mouthpieces for them at one point. Mv2541 may be correct about the mouthpiece being numbered to distinguish them from one another. I’ll probably contact Hammond as well because I’m curious to find out a bit more about it.
